Amedeo Modigliani

Livorno, Italy, 1884 - Paris, France, 1920. Italian painter and sculptor.

Amadeo Modigliani is one of the most important painters of the early 20th century.

He was born in Livorno, Italy, in 1884, and had very weak and precarious health throughout his life.

He studied Fine Arts in Livorno, his hometown, and later continued training in the cities Florence and Venice.

Once he finished his studies, he moved to live in Paris, a city that marked him for his intense literary and artistic life.

In the city of light he met Pablo Picasso, who became a great friend and whose painting influenced the artist, as did Toulouse-Lautrec, Georges Braque and Paúl Cézanne.

He was deeply interested in the modernist movement of the time in Paris.

During an important period of his life he was a sculptor. He sculpted directly on stone, in order to maintain the essence of the unity of the stone block in his sculptures, which reflected a great influence of the Renaissance style, were simple and elegant at the same time.

Later he returned to painting, but his sculpture always influenced his way of painting. He mainly made portraits, nudes and human figures, and he did it with great dexterity, elegance and subtlety.

The essence of his paintings was simplicity in forms and strokes, in color, his figures were elongated and stylized. His painting was very novel for the time and, despite the influence of important artists of his time, none of them came to profoundly mark his style. His painting was unique, different, full of beauty and simplicity.

Modigliani was one of the most important painters of the 20th century, although his work was not recognized during his life. His paintings were not conventional portraits or figures, they were different, innovative and ahead of their time.

We can say that, for his short artistic career, since he died very young, he has been one of the painters who has most influenced contemporary painting of the 20th century, and today he continues to influence a large number of artists.

Its beauty, elegance in its forms and its simplicity, made its style unique and different from the rest of its contemporary artists.

The last five years of his life were the most productive and in which he made his most important works, which were mainly portraits and nudes.

Modigliani created his own and unique style regardless of all the artistic trends of his time, his painting was simply different and beautiful at the same time.
